Mineral Resource in Tanzania

Tanzania, a mineral-rich country in East Africa, is attracting attention as a strategic location for building key supply chains for the global energy transition. The mining sector, based on the country's abundant natural resources, is a core driver of Tanzania's economic growth, and its importance is being further highlighted through continuous investment and policy support.

  • Strategic Minerals: Tanzania possesses large-scale deposits of key minerals essential for electric vehicle batteries and advanced industries, including graphite, nickel, cobalt, and lithium. Notably, the country boasts the world's sixth-largest graphite reserves, while the large-scale nickel project in the Kabanga region is drawing significant global interest

  • Precious Metals and Gems: Tanzania has a long history as a renowned gold producer and is one of Africa's top four. The country is also a treasure trove of diverse gemstones, including tanzanite, a unique gem found only in Tanzania, as well as diamonds, rubies, and sapphires.

  • Industrial Minerals: Tanzania also has abundant deposits of various industrial minerals, including coal, iron ore, and uranium, which are used in construction and industrial materials. These resources form the foundation for local industrialization and infrastructure development.

Investment Environment and Future Vision

The Tanzanian government is actively pursuing policies to cultivate the mining industry as a core component of the national economy. It has set a goal to increase the mining sector's contribution to GDP to 10% by 2025 and is improving the legal and institutional environment to attract foreign investment. Additionally, the government is encouraging investment in local processing and refining facilities to increase the value of raw minerals and is committed to sustainable development and shared prosperity with local communities.
